Michelle MacLean

My name is Michelle (she/her) and I have the privilege to live and serve on the traditional and unceded territories of thexʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.

I am the proud mother to two kids, and in 2018 I had the honor to be a gestational surrogate. After my high risk birth in 2002, I knew I wanted to support families in pregnancy, birth and beyond. Having a doula present at my first birth was transformational for myself and my family. In 2005 I took a DONA training and continue to take any available workshops to enhance my skills and knowledge. Training includes Birthing from Within, Perinatal Loss, Rebozo appreciation and skills (ongoing), Lamaze Childbirth Educator program, Acupressure in Labour and many more alternative modalities.

I have been a part of the South Community Birth Program since 2009. This program has opened the doors for me to serve a variety of birthing families. Here is where my passion for working with the most complex high risk births, folks with barriers, loss births, and marginalized communities began. I now sit on the board and am a mentor doula.

In 2012, I joined forces with Pacific Rim College to build the most comprehensive doula training. The Holistic Doula Program was a highlight in my career for eight years as the Program Coordinator and doula trainer.

The Trans and Queer Pregnancy and Parenting Group (TQPP) was created in 2016. As a co-facilitator, it has been an absolute joy to have a safe space for people to gather monthly to share and navigate journeys together.

I support birthing families of all types and dynamics, from a hands off home birth to the most extreme high risk hospital births. My goal is for you to be informed, educated and empowered no matter where or how you choose to birth, I cater to you and all of your needs and desires. With 1400+ births attended, I bring my passion, open minded, non judgmental, continuous care and experience in. This is YOUR journey, and it is a true honor to be beside you on it.

When not attending births, I find joy in my children and family, hiking, beach days, nail salons, living room dance parties and slowing life down as much as possible.

With Gratitude,

Michelle
